... if you enjoy sleeping! The atmosphere at The Session is like no other UK magic convention. Everyone who attends is passionate about close-up and card magic and the primary emphasis of the weekend is on the learning and sharing of great magic. Informal sessions go on non stop from early on the Saturday through to very late on Sunday.

Where is The Session 2009?
The Session 2009 is held in a great hotel in Gloucester. It's a central location and is really easy to get to. It's just off the M5, or a 2-hour direct train journey from London, a 30 minute drive from Bristol. It's near the Gloucester train and bus stations. We've also negotiated a great nightly deal for the hotel (more info).
Schedule
The offical events start at 1.30pm on Saturday and will finish at about 9pm on Sunday ... but most people stay until Monday morning. View full schedule
Special event - in association with The Session 2009
Also this year, in association with The Session 2009, Ben Earl is holding a special event called Gambit Live to launch his new magazine Gambit.
About The Session
The Session is now the only yearly specialist close-up magic convention in the country and is constantly breaking new ground by booking performers who have either never been to the UK or are rarely seen here. In the previous three years we have featured Lee Asher, Allan Ackerman, Paul Cummins, Tyler Wilson, Wayne Houchin, Aaron Fisher, Chad Long, Kostya Kimlat and many others.
If you have never attended a magic convention before, The Session is a fantastic place to start. The fact that we have a limited number of registrants means the convention is a lot friendlier than some of the more established events in the magical calendar.
This year sees several changes that will ensure you leave The Session with more excellent new magic than ever before. The Saturday afternoon workshops are back, which will feature experts in their field giving hands on tuition in small groups.
We've got a great line-up this year, as usual containing magicians that rarely lecture and magicians that have never appeared in Europe before. We're not just a card magic convention and this year we'll host more commerical magic than ever before.

Is The Session 2009 just about card tricks?
The Session is not just a card magic convention. Last year we saw tricks with coins, ropes, balloons, poker chips, paint cans and chinese takeaway menus! Like any gathering of magicians card moves and tricks form a large part of the informal sessions. A lot of card guys and girls attend The Session so we always make sure at least one of our lecturers is a well known card technician but the lectures and performances cover the full spectrum of close up magic.
